This four-piece was formed in the southern Brisbane suburb of Mansfield in 2004. Their debut E.P., ‘Pigs & T.V.’ was released in 2006. Their heavily ‘1990s’ influenced sound gained widespread attention and led to comparisons with such ‘grunge’ acts as Nirvana and The Pixies.

Following this, they released their debut album “We Don’t Belong Here” in 2008. In support of this release, the band toured across Australia as well as playing shows in New York, London and Los Angeles.

In 2010, the band was signed to Thurston Moore’s (Sonic Youth) record label ‘Ecstatic! Peace’ and released their self-titled sophomore album.  Featuring critically acclaimed singles ‘Jesus Stole My Girlfriend’ and ‘Son of Sam’, this album gained the band international recognition and led them to tour with such acts as Jebediah and Arctic Monkeys.

Violent Soho are set to release their new album, ‘Hungry Ghost’ next week. Check out the latest single from that album entitled ‘Dope Calypso’ below.  The video includes some cool black and white shots of the band performing and riding skateboards around Brisbane.

‘Hungry Ghost’ is out September 6 through I Oh You Records

‘The Hungry Ghost Tour ’ hits Brisbane on October 26 (tickets available at Oztix.com)
